Signing your tenancy agreement

Overview

Your invitation walks you through five steps: Welcome, Key terms, Read your documents, Your details and Sign. Read each document to the end, add anything still missing about you, then sign and add your initials. Nothing is final until everyone has signed.

Welcome and key terms
1
Open your invitation
Your property manager emails you a link to sign. Open it and the first step is Welcome. If you don't have a Keyhook account yet, you'll be asked to set one up.
2
Check the key terms
Key terms sets out the rent, the bond, the dates and who is on the tenancy, so you can see the deal before you read the document. Nothing is signed yet, and you can stop here and come back to the link later.
Read your documents
1
Open a document
On Read your documents, pick a document from the list. The Tenancy Agreement is always first, followed by anything your property manager attached to it.
2
Scroll it to the end
Keyhook tracks how far you have read and marks the document complete when you reach the last page. There's no button to press.
3
Do the same for the rest
Work through every document in the list. Once they're all complete you can move on.

Note: How far you read is recorded and stored with your signed copy, so read each document properly rather than scrolling past it. This is the tenancy you'll be legally bound by.

Your details
1
Fill in anything missing
On Your details, add anything Keyhook still needs about you, such as an emergency contact. Your property manager may have filled some of it in already.
Sign
1
Tick the two boxes
On Sign, you accept Keyhook's terms and confirm you've read the agreement. They're two separate ticks.
2
Add your signature and initials
Draw or type your signature, and your initials alongside it.
3
Submit it
Once both are done, your signature is recorded against the agreement.

Note: Your initials appear on every page of the agreement and of each attached document, next to the page number. You only draw or type them once.

After you sign
1
The other tenants sign
If there's more than one of you, each tenant signs from their own invitation.
2
Then your property manager or the owner
Once every tenant has signed, it goes to your property manager to countersign, or to the property owner if they manage the tenancy themselves.
3
You get your copy
Nothing is final until everyone has signed. You get your copy once it is.
If something stops you
1
You can't move on from the documents
Every document has to be read to the end. Open any that isn't finished and scroll it to the last page. Scrolling back up doesn't undo your progress, and coming back to a document you left part-read picks up where you got to.
2
Your link won't open
Each tenant signs from their own account, so a flatmate's link won't work while you're signed in as yourself. Log out and open your own invitation instead.
3
Your link says it has already been used
That means another account has claimed it. Keyhook shows your property manager's contact details on that screen so you can ask them for a fresh one.

Frequently asked questions

I've signed. Why isn't it finished?

Because everyone has to sign. Any other tenants sign from their own invitations, then your property manager or the property owner signs last. You get your copy once the last signature is in.
