Set Up the Inspection App
Overview
To set up the app, log in with your Keyhook email and password (entering a two-factor code if your account uses one) → open the menu and tap Settings → set your upload preferences → pick a Preferred maps app. Settings save as you change them, so there's no Save button.
Log in to the inspection app
Open your Settings
Set how your photos and videos upload
Note: With Upload only on Wi-Fi on, media stays on your device until you next connect to Wi-Fi — a report won't finish syncing on mobile data. With Auto-delete photos after upload on, use Backup media files (in the app menu) first for anything you want to keep, as local copies are removed once uploaded.
Back up your photos and videos
Note: Backup media files works on the copies held on your device. Once media has uploaded (especially with Auto-delete photos after upload on) it may no longer be listed here.
Choose your preferred maps app
Note: Only maps apps installed on your device appear in the list. If none of Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze is installed you'll see "No supported maps apps found on your device."
Get directions to an inspection
Note: The map icon stays greyed out until you've set a Preferred maps app — set one first (see above) to turn it on.
Good to know
- The Dark Mode / Light Mode toggle at the top of Settings switches the app's theme, and is saved on that device.
- Logout at the bottom of Settings signs you out and clears any pending media uploads — let uploads finish before you log out.
- If you belong to more than one portfolio, a portfolio selector (All Portfolios, the portfolio name, or N Portfolios) appears in the menu just above your name — tap it to choose which portfolios' inspections you see.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find the app's settings?
Open the menu (the icon in the top-left), then tap the Settings item (gear icon) or your name at the bottom — both open the Settings screen. Everything — theme, upload options and your maps app — lives there; there's no separate "Profile Settings" screen. (Backup media files is a separate item in the same menu, not on the Settings screen.)
Do I have to save my settings?
No. Every toggle and your Preferred maps app choice save the moment you change them, and they stay set on that device — there's no Save button.
What does "Use improved queueing" do?
It routes your photo and video uploads through Keyhook's newer upload queue, which is designed to handle background uploading more reliably. It's an optional setting — if your uploads are working fine you don't need to change it.
Why is the map icon greyed out on an inspection?
Because you haven't chosen a Preferred maps app yet, or none of Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze is installed on your device. Set one under Settings → Preferred maps app and the icon becomes active.
Will my photos upload on mobile data?
Yes, unless you turn on Upload only on Wi-Fi. With that on, media waits until you're next on Wi-Fi before it uploads.
The app is asking for a 2-factor code — what do I enter?
If your Keyhook account has two-factor authentication turned on, after your password the app shows a 2-Factor Authentication screen. Enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app. No authenticator handy? Tap Enter a backup code and use one of your 32-character backup codes (each works only once). If you can't get in, tap Lost access to your authenticator? to email Keyhook support.
How do I keep a copy of an inspection's photos on my phone?
Open the menu and tap Backup media files. Select the photos and videos you want, then choose Save to copy them into your phone's photo library (allow media-library access the first time). It's worth doing this before you turn on Auto-delete photos after upload.
